I am a Columbus, OH graphic designer working for a large healthcare advertising agency as their presentation specialist. I have an insatiable appetite for learning new techniques and methods of graphic design, web design, presentations, and industry applications like Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. I do seek a balance between left and right brain activities and that where my love for HTML and CSS coding come in. Most designers avoid that stuff like the plague. I really like the structure and beauty of the markup process. To bad there’s not a Design Network on the tube.

I also love food and cooking food in particular. At times this intersects my day job when we host fundraisers for charities, like the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Mostly I cook for myself and bring in surprise treats for my co-workers or treat my friends to specials meals. My left brain loves the techniques involved in cooking. One of my favorite tasks is making Gumbo from scratch, starting early with making the stock, preparing my mise en place of vegetables, spices and proteins, then going through the process of transforming those ingredients into a wonderfully rich and full flavored pot of creole goodness.

With the advent of the Food Network, I’ve become a true foodie that can watch cooking shows for hours. What do I watch the most? My favorites are Alton Brown’s Good Eats, Iron Chef America, Top Chef (I know, that’s Bravo, not the Food Network), Easy Entertaining with Michael Chiarello, Chopped, and pretty much anything else that I happen to catch (except Semi-Ho, I mean, c’mon).

Besides the two things that make up this blog, I also have a passion for science in all its myriad forms. That’s a big reason why I love working in the healthcare advertising field. Science and art, ahhh. Biology is by far my biggest interest, especially the inner workings of our DNA and evolutionary sciences. But that on the micro level. On the macro side, I love learning about the universe we live in, and the evolution involved in our own planet and others.

Other tidbits:

I grew up in and around Cleveland, OH. Living in Parma, Brunswick, Rocky River, Cleveland Heights and finally Collinwood before moving to Columbus.

I am 100% Bohemian (Czech) with my family originating in České Budějovice and Podskaly, both in the southern region of the Czech Republic near Austria.

I am highly allergic to potatoes. Yeah, you read that right. Poor me? No way. That have led me to learn about more vegetables as substitues. Sweet potatoes, turnips, parsnips, rhutabegas, chayote and squashes.

I hope you enjoy reading my posts, stop back often and comment freely. I’d love to hear from you.
